Implants
What is a dental implant?
A Dental Implant functions as the root of a new tooth. Once inserted in the mouth, it looks, feel and function like a natural tooth. The implant itself is a small titanium post that is inserted into the jawbone to replace that missing tooth. This metal anchor acts as tooth root substitute. Once surgically placed, the bone bonds with the titanium (a process called ‘integration’), creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Small posts are then attached to the implant, which protrude through the gums. These posts provide stable anchors for the artificial replacement teeth.
When this process is complete, an abutment is attached to the implant that will connect the final crown to complete the procedure. An implant crown is not susceptible to cavities but may develop complications if oral hygiene is not maintained consistently over time.
Why Should I consider Implants?
Several reasons. Missing teeth can allow the jawbone to shrink and make the face age prematurely. Dental Implants help restore balance in your mouth by giving you a permanent, beautiful and natural looking result. If maintained properly this solution can last a lifetime.
How much does a Dental Implant cost?
Several factors come in play here, but on average a Dental Implant can range between 1500-2000$ per tooth. This does not include the pricing of the crown that the dentist will need to perform after the implant is placed. A Dental Crown usually costs between 1500-3000$ but this may very depending on your dentist.
Each case is different so we advise potential patients to come in for a consultation to get the most accurate information. Feel free to set-up an appointment and we would be happy to explain our costing structure.
Am I a candidate for Dental Implants?
Any person who is missing one or more teeth due to injury, tooth decay or disease may be a candidate for dental implants. Booking a consultation with one of our professional will allow us to evaluate your case and provide the best treatment plan moving forward.
Does Insurance cover Dental Implants?
This really depends on your insurance provider. Some providers cover partial reimbursement of your implants but we recommend speaking directly with your provider to see your plan details. Dental Implants are considered medical expenses and can be deducted from your income taxes.
What are the advantages of a single tooth implant over a bridge?
- It doesn’t sacrifice the health of adjacent teeth
- Dental implants integrate with your jawbone, helping to keep the bone healthy and
intact (bridges can cause deterioration of the bone surrounding your tooth and resorb)
- Long term – Implants are easier to maintain
